July Festivals

10 July 2007

If you’ll be visiting the Philippines during this month, you’ll probably ending up wet as it is the rainy season. Some good things to do at this moment is to visit Negros Orriental, Albay and Bulacan with their festivals.

At Tanjay, Negros Orriental, they have a twice a year event called “Paaway Sa Kabayo” or horsefight in english. During this event, they held fights among studs to battle supremacy for a lady horse. Around 100 or more horses are being trained the whole year for this exciting event. This is held every July 25th and December 25th of every year.

In Bocaue, Bulacan, they have a river festival wherein they go for a fluvial procession riding in a so-called “Pagoda” honoring the miraculous “Krus Ng Wawa” or Cross of Bocaue. This is held every first Sunday of July…though we’re already in the second week at the moment, it’s not late for next year!

If you want something long, better go to Albay with their Lubid Festival. This is a weeklong celebration showcasing the province’s top product which is abaca (known globally as Manila hemp) locally known as”lubid”. Lots of activities are lined up headed by street parades with participants wearing costumes made of abaca.

With this events, rainy season is not an excuse not to visit Paradise Philippines. See you there.
