When you’re in the Paradise Philippines, you’ll surely notice this unique type of transportation, with an aluminum body, not a bus nor a van but carries a lot of people. This is what we call Jeepney, the most popular means of transportation in the country.
The jeepney originated from the US military jeeps that were left by the Americans to local Filipinos after the World War II. The original military jeeps were stripped down to accomodate more passengers, hoods were added for sun and rain protections and decorated them a little to look more attractive.
The popularity of jeepney spread across the islands rapidly making it the “Hari ng Kalsada” (King of the road). There is no place in the country that you can’t find a jeepney. As time passed by, jeepneys even got some developments with several of them having air-cons to chill out passengers.
Jeepney is also a big proof of how honest the Filipinos are, even without fare collectors, the passengers just pay directly to the driver though the driver can’t monitor them who’s paying or not because of him busy looking at the road for the safety of his loads.
Well, jeepney is truly a treasure of the Paradise Philippines.
